FLT 001 -2 / IDC Cat#0042
FLUT is about maintaining a devotion to rhythm, distortion and simplicity. Lyrics express brute honesty, which leaves little room for manners. FLUT has no interest in the pompous sappy rhetoric that makes most music suck. The sound ranges from pop to punk to folk, sometimes jazz, sometimes metal and sometimes story-telling talking that can turn into a psychotic episode of screaming nursery rhymes.
lily amirpour: bass, vocals, songwriter.
a writer and artist, lily spawned this FLUT.
"People always ask, "What's your band like?" and I'm always saying it's like this and that and a little this and that. I realize it doesn't have a distinct category or genre, which I love, but sometimes it's hard to explain. Some good descriptions I've heard were 'Poet-core' or 'Indie-rot' and Nofi Magazine described us as, "Betty Boop if sung by the Breeders". After a show this guy came up and said it sounded like modern beatnik music. They all sound right to me."
brian carmody: drums.
a classically trained jazz drummer raised on the descendents and minor threat. punk + jazz = good rock. also a member of two bay area bands, the jazz trio Oscar Fabulous, and the afro-cuban outfit Mas Que Nada.
jara queeto: keyboard, trumpet, accordion.
the newest member of FLUT, jara came on board in 2003 to make this former duo a trio. jara is a virtuoso on the piano and trumpet. also a trained sound engineer, jara co-produced and engineered FLUT's debut album Puppy4Life.
