"Smooth, yet driven, with an edge of mystery, her third album features songs about love, passion and heartache -- with the title song, "Over the Line," serving as Doty's personal memo about pushing life to its limits, and then some..."

- San Francisco Chronicle

"On her newest disc, Over the Line , Doty radiates vast reserves of upbeat creative energy that can easily be heard in the nine dreamy uppers packed onto the album. Her rootsy rock has a deep and soulful groove, with jubilantly jazzy vocals, a folk foundation, and an elasticity that can as easily accommodate wailing Hammond B-3 organ or campfire harmonica as sleepy cello or plaintive sax. Of course Doty's guitar, electric or acoustic, guides us with a deft and steady hand throughout, but does so in a self-assured and non-showy way, always serving the songs instead of vice versa" - East Bay Express

Shelley Doty has been called a "future legend" by one reviewer and a "guitar goddess" by another. Known as much for her soulful voice as she is for her masterful guitar licks, she brings a vibrant passion to the singer-songwriter genre. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Shelley is touring in support her newest release, Over the Line. For Doty, the folk-informed singer-songwriter and the funky, fiery guitarist are two sides of her musical personality so strong they almost constitute a Jekyll-Hyde relationship. Luckily, on Over the Line, she’s successfully blended her two personas to create a well-crafted suite of songs about love and loss, which manages to rock with a gentle yet powerful groove. It’s her most succinct and radio-friendly album to date, with such gems as "Shy", which captures the sweet tingly excitement of a new romance, and "Another Happy Lie" which chronicles the pain of learning a lover has not been true. Each song has been given it’s own arrangement to create a versatile and dynamic album, and yet it remains cohesive through it’s lyrical themes and compelling style.

Shelley has been featured on the cover of Play Guitar magazine, in ROCKRGRL, LiP, and countless other publications. She has performed with the Pretenders, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Train, Blues Traveler, the Allman Brothers, Taj Mahal, Ricky Lee Jones, and many more. She began playing guitar at the age of 14, and spent years honing her talent by touring the nation with such diverse bands as Jambay (jam-rock), Pele Juju (worlbeat), Bonfire Madigan (avant-punk), and Kindness (electronic/rock). In addition to fronting her band, the Shelley Doty X-Tet, she plays lead guitar for many other artists, both live and on studio recordings. Her songs can be heard on several compilations and feature films, including Calling All King and Queens (with Sleater-Kinney and Amy Ray), Wildfire, SF Time Capsule, and Healing Sex. Additionally, Shelley is co-creator, writer, musical director and star of the animated teen/adult feature strangeframe, which is currently in production.
