The Human Angle: All the money raised from the sales of this album will go to the homeless, including all mechanicals, all royalties, all publishing. No money will go to any of the musicians, record label, distributor... Just to SF’s Homeless! Officially, ten percent of San Franciscans live in poverty, and homelessness is a massive problem in the city with the third highest median income in the country.
The Promotional Angle: The project will be easy to promote effectively. It has already secured the following:- back to back radio play on multidimens.net (New York digital radio), radio play on WALW-FM, radio play on weekly radio shows "The Menace's Attic" and "Just Another Menace Sunday" in San Francisco on 90.3 KUSF and worldwide on ITUNES, website promotion with Giant Step Records, Regular weekly promotion on zilogroove (75000 on mailing list), a feature on the main webpage of FXpansion (a music software company), Promotion whenever needed on BeyondChron San Francisco’s alternative online daily. The CD has also been promoted by the charity itself in their newspaper Street Sheet. 40,000 copies on the streets of San Francisco, December 2006.
The Quality of Music Angle: The album features the singer from Bugz in the Attic, the trumpet player from the Scissor Sisters, the sax player from Portishead, the double bass player with Ian Anderson, some of the most successful voice over artists in American TV, Radio and Film, the recording engineer with Sway, the Neptunes, Placebo, etc and a very successful illustrator of childern’s books did the cover art.
Who are these dudes? Heroes of the Dancefloor is a musical collective of 13 musicians, 13 speakers, 1 singer,1 artist and 1 producer engineer. If they were cooks they’d describe their music as 1920s to 50s Jazz mixed liberally with gospel, served on a bed of breaks, hip hop and garage and marinated in a delicate sauce of cartoons, adverts for TV, and funk.
And as the first track asks ‘what does it all mean?" ALL the money for this record will go to the charity Coalition on Homelessness San Francisco (www.cohsf.org), a grassroots social justice effort dedicated to the elimination of homelessness and its social, political and economical causes.
And how can you help? Your support helps the coalition continue in its work toward achieving permanent solutions to poverty. As they say in their mission statement, "Extensive peer outreach is at the heart of everything we do: We do not bring our agendas to poor and homeless people; they bring their agendas to us, and our efforts on their behalf (on both personal and political fronts) are shaped by their input.
